Fractal

Our guild hosted a wonderful spinning workshop with
the lovely and talented Jillian Moreno.

We had a wonderful time experimenting with color in her
'Color Play' class

Knitting up some mitts with some fractal spun fiber from class.
Loving the way the stripes are knitting up!

Fiber: Into the Whirled: color way 'Captain Tiuhtpants'
Pattern: Part Ann Budd's recipe for mittens, part mine

Farm Show

Had fun last week representing the Butler Guild by doing a weaving
demonstration at the Butler Farm Show.

The spinners hand spun Linda's beautifully prepared wool rolags
into yarn for weaving.

I warped enough for two scarves and wove the second one at home.

The weft for the second scarf was a miscalculated warp
from a demo last year.  Glad I hung onto it because I had just
enough to weave off the scarf!

The medium blue weft really makes the colors pop..

One more demo to go.  Next stop...

Fleece to Shawl..

{Before the Bath}

This shawl was woven in about three hours using
freshly hand spun, unwashed, wool.

The yarns are springy-full-of-energy fresh
off the spinning wheel making weaving with
them a challenge.

Once the shawl is soaked and blocked the yarns will calm down.

This piece was woven during a demonstration at the
Depreciation Lands Museum.

Now to wash this sheepy thing

Maryland Sheep and Wool

Last weekend was Maryland Sheep and Wool.

ALWAYS a good time rain or shine.

Love this guy..

So excited to say our guild placed Second in the
Sheep-to-Shawl competition.

Sheep is sheared, wool carded, then hand spun and woven into
a shawl in less than 3 hours.  Once the shawl is off the loom it gets washed,
handed into the officials to be judged and then auctioned.

Our theme was 'Violets in the Grass"..

It takes a great team effort and I am
so proud of them!

Hope everyone had a wonderful wooly weekend!

Thar she blows..

The loom.

Yesterday was her maiden voyage out of the workroom
and to my first guild fleece-to-shawl demo weaving event.

The spinners were amazing.
Thank you Carol, Annette, Beth, Linda, and Jerry.

The donated fleece was gorgeous.
Thank you Wini.

Lots of friendly faces and kind folks visiting the event.
Thanks Ann, Dave, Carol G., Sarah, Karen, and Marilyn.

I was so busy weaving I completely forgot to
take pictures.

Today I'll get the workroom put back together and
finish the bit I have left to weave, while listening to the much
needed rain.

Thanks again everyone for all the love, support,
and a wonderful first weaving event.
