Chipping away..

This is where I've been for the past six months.

Slowly chipping away at the Level 1 Master Weaving Homework.

There is one paper and the final project left to go and I am
dyeing the warp for that today.
It pretty much took two days to figure out how
to get a 'random' stripe pattern.

Who knew random could be so hard?

After hours of fiddling with the Fibonacci Sequence and the help
of an on-line 'random stripe generator' I came up with something
that will work.  Six hues of the same color with all ends accounted for....check!

Also working on dyeing sample colors for a guild sheep-to-shawl warp.

Happy Sunday!

Yarn Along..

Hats..

I haven't had much luck with them in the past.

After talking with a friend at the guild, she was kind enough to loan me this book..

Elizabeth Zimmerman.
Need I say more?

It's like she is talking to me...

Some first hats.

The brown and pink is a hand dyed chunky hand spun.

Thanks Linda for making hats fun!

Do you have a favorite hat pattern?

Yarn Along..

This week I have been working on dying "similar" color ways.

While the colors are similar, the dye still finds its own path to the yarn
creating a truly unique skein of yarn.

I love that.

I am calling this
"Late August"

Couldn't resist purchasing this book.

I am feeling the need to let my fingers be free and explore.

Cooking..

This week has been full of tomatoes..

Chopping.
Stewing.
Cooking.
Canning.
Sauces.
Salsa.

Cooking tomatoes in the kitchen..
Cooking wool in the garage..

Brazilwood natural dye!

Experiments with color.

I couldn't find my note page on Brazilwood so I had to wing it.
Made the dye bath too strong and rinsing out has been taking a bit longer.

Loving the colors of nature..

Go-to..

Ah...The Antarktis..
How I adore this pattern.

This is the third time I've knit it and it won't be the last.

It is the first thing I grab when heading out the door.

Perfect size..
Perfect drape..
Just plain cozy.

Knitting this one with a skein of my hand dyed yarn.
Had the hankering for for chartreuse and purples.

Do you have a go-to knit that you love?

Colors of nature.. Part 1

Nature always wears the colors of the spirit.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Mixing.

Stirring.

Simmering.

Learning how to extract the colors of nature.

Sunny breezes.

In awe of Mother Nature's colors captured on wool.

It was like a 'lab of color chemisty' with lessons taught by the
 lovely and talented Juanita Breidenbagh.

The pots would open and the group would sigh..
'Ahhh....'

Rinsing..

More drying..

Beauty seen is never lost, God's colors all are fast.

Hand dyed Pile-O-Fluff..

..tucked in my bag for some Easter spinning at the cabin.

Cabin window complete with Easter bunting.

Tossed the drop spindle in my pack and hiked to our favorite spot on the river.

Sun!

River spun.

River otter and porcupine.

This fiber is part of a two ounce challenge for my spinning group.
Spin two ounces on the drop spindle and make something with it.

Cast on this week for a small shawlette..
Will post the pattern once I have a bit more done.

Library love:

Reading this to curb spring wanderlust.
